d-flight: The web portal
d-flight, is the service provided by ENAV, Leonardo, Telespazio and IDS, where you can view aeronautical maps and register your drone/UAVs. On paper, the portal should become the point of reference for both professional and recreational drone pilots. Let’s see how it is structured and what it actually serves.
d-flight – Functions
To date, access to the portal is free and does not require registration. The functions offered are three:
- d-flight maps,
- registration and account management,
Of these two functions, they are not active: account registration and management and identification, pending regulatory decisions as reported in the portal itself.
The purpose of the two inactive functions is obviously the main one for which the portal was created: that is, to register all the drones. From 1st July 2020, in fact, it is mandatory to register all drones on the d-flight portal.
In consideration of the fact that the drone registration procedure is not without difficulties and hitches, for a user experience without trauma it is recommended to read the step-by-step guide for registering on the portal and registering the drone “d-flight-register the drone (guide)” from the Blog.
The maps – Go or no go flight?
d-flight therefore, it makes available at the moment only a map showing the “air rules” for airspace under 120 meters high. This zoomable map shows all the elements that must be taken into account in the correct use of the drone. That is: airports, prohibited areas, dangerous areas, shooting areas, etc. References to the conscious and diligent use of the drone are also reported in the codice di condotta.
The map shows the cartographic projection of the ATZ redesigned according to the ATM-09 circular in force from 1st July 2019.
In relation to the completeness of the information contained in the d-flight maps, we recommend the letter of the Blog article “d-flight maps – Flying in the Italian National Parks“.
Rules and standard scenarios
Of particular interest are the items on the d-flight portal menu relating to the rules and to the standard scenarios.
The first item, law, in fact contains the direct link to all the Italian legislation and related updates, while the item, standard scenarios, summarizes the standard operating scenarios in a concise but clear way, with the related constraints.
Therefore waiting for the portal to make available what it was made for, in case you need to consult the maps to know where to fly with your drone you can use d-flight, but it is good to remember that there are many apps for no fly zones for this!
Waiting for d-flight to become fully operational, continue to follow us, waiting for new update articles on the subject.
And in the meantime Go flight to all!
