MyGalieloDrone – Applications & services with drones

On July 17th, the European GNSS Agency (GSA), in concert with the European Commission agency for Galileo and EGNOS, launched a competition called MyGalileoDrone.
The aim of the competition is the development of applications and/or services that make use of drones that use a Galileo-EGNOS receiver.

Galileo-EGNOS the base of the future

Galileo and EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service) offer added value to navigation and positioning compared to other systems.
In fact, drones, through the use of a Galileo-EGNOS receiver, drones can enjoy greater accuracy in position, an aspect that is fundamental for the development of new applications and services.

The use of solutions based on Galileo and EGNOS does not concern the drone in the strict sense, but the integration of these in the flight platform or in other operating support devices such as a smartphone.

Launched on 17th July, the competition provides that initial ideas, which make use of the Galileo-EGNOS receiver on drones, will be received by 31 August. Information webinars are scheduled for 4th and 17rh August. The finalists who won the 4 prizes of 100,000, 60,000, 40,000 and 30,000 euros will be announced on January 28th, 2021.

Participants will have until November 30th to develop a demo version of the proposed service. During the development process, candidates will receive tutoring and coaching from recognized experts in the drone market.
Participants will have to submit innovative projects, with drones equipped with the technology described above in the following areas of innovation:

• European green deal
• digital strategies
• European lifestyle protection
• European resilience and recovery.

Specifications relating to the competition areas are available at the following link.

Target areas of the competition

With reference to the innovation areas, the participants in the competition must present innovative projects in one of the following sub-areas of intervention:

  • Urban air mobility
